Scott Lewis

Scott Lewis is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Spartan Investment Group, LLC (SIG). As the CEO, Scott is responsible for the company’s strategic direction and ensuring it aligns with SIG’s mission to Improve Lives Through Our Values.

 

In addition to Spartan, Scott is also in the US Army Reserves and a combat vet. Scott graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in chemistry and marketing, from Catholic University with an MS in management, and from Georgetown University with a Certificate in Project Management.

 

In his free time, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife, Lindsay, mountain biking, skiing, and chasing their Jack Russell Terriers around the yard.

President, CIO and Co-Founder

Ryan Gibson

Ryan Gibson is the President, Chief Investment Officer, and Co-Founder of SIG. He has organized over $200M of private equity for Spartan’s projects. Ryan has experience managing the development of SIGs projects in challenging markets.

For SIG, Ryan is responsible for investor relations and capital raises for projects. Ryan is also a highly experienced commercial airline pilot. Ryan graduated from Mercyhurst University with a bachelor’s degree in Business, with concentrations in Marketing, Management, and Advertising.

President - Spartan Construction Management

Aaron Saunders

Aaron Saunders is the President of Spartan Construction Management. He brings over 15 years of construction leadership experience including roles as a Sr. Project Engineer, Project Sponsor, and Director of Operations.  Aaron has managed concurrent projects ranging from 1M to 25M and has managed over 150M worth of projects during his career. He has a strong knowledge of project planning/scheduling, contract management, engineering oversite, subcontract management and has been a part of building multiple construction teams over his career. In addition to Spartan, Aaron oversees a real estate portfolio including single-family rentals, residential development, and multifamily limited partnerships.  

President of FreeUp Storage

Matthias Kellmer

Matthias Kellmer is the President of FreeUp Storage, the national banner under which Spartan manages its 65-property portfolio. Matthias leads the FreeUp Storage operations team to develop company infrastructure to scale Spartan’s portfolio and identify new deals. His focus areas include acquiring and transitioning new facilities, marketing, training, revenue management, and field operations.

Matthias has over 20 years of experience working in commercial real estate, with a concentration on value-add assets. He most recently served as Vice President of Asset Management at Extra Space Storage. In this capacity, he oversaw asset strategy for a national portfolio of 1,300+ REIT and joint venture sites.

Matthias is based in Golden, Colorado, and holds a B.A. and an M.B.A. from Brigham Young University. He enjoys traveling with his wife and four children, as well as hiking, backpacking, biking, and skiing.

Executive VP of People

Whitney Hamm

Whitney Hamm is the Executive VP of People for Spartan Investment Group and is responsible for making sure the people operations systems run smoothly and provide a good experience for the team. She is dedicated to supporting SIG and all team members in pursuit of our mission, vision, values, and cultural goals. Prior to joining SIG Whitney spent six years in startup environments, most recently working for a residential real estate investment firm in Denver to build out the people operations systems and teams for the holding company.  

Whitney brings 11 years’ experience in People Operations roles with an MSc in Business Management (Focus in Human Resources) from Bournemouth University, UK.

Chief Legal Officer

Kevin Holst

Kevin Holst is the Chief Legal Officer for Spartan Investment Group. He brings over 20 years of leadership and real estate development experience across multiple commercial real estate verticals. Kevin handles all legal, governmental, and risk matters in order to serve as the guardian of Spartan’s overall operations. He also has successfully scaled and developed teams in growth-orientated companies while designing and establishing legal and operational process improvements to boost company efficiency and results. While serving for several years with Vail Resorts’ legal department, he held legal responsibility over employee housing, lodging, land use, real estate development, and all real estate aspects of ski resort acquisition.

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from the Saint Olaf College in Minnesota, and he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Kevin has completed 12 marathons and is a cyclist, runner, and master swimmer.

Director of Asset Management

Thomas Eddy

Thomas Eddy is the Director of Asset Management for Spartan Investment Group. He brings over 14 years of experience in the finance industry. Prior to joining the team at Spartan, Thomas worked in Private Wealth and Commercial Banking.

Thomas graduated from Portland State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business, with concentrations in Marketing and Finance.

VP of Investments

Rob Moreno

Rob Moreno is the Vice President of Investments for Spartan Investment Group, bringing over 20 years of results-driven sales and executive leadership in various sectors including Self Storage, Infrastructure Acquisitions, and Hospitality. He has been brought on to deliver results that directly impact Spartan’s sales efforts and growing revenue. Currently, he leads and manages the Capital Raising group that sources and secures funding for our nationwide portfolio of self-storage properties.  He is passionate about creating innovative partnerships with other owners, developers, and operators, and leveraging Spartan’s flexible deal offerings to provide synergistic benefits.

He graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in business, where he specialized in Marketing and Finance.  When he’s not working, Rob enjoys spending quality time wife and two daughters, exploring the outdoors, golf and tennis in the summer, and skiing in the winter.

Maren Furlong

Maren Furlong is a Property Accountant for Spartan Investment Group. Maren has about eight years of accounting experience focused on property accounting, corporate accounting, and auditing.  

 

Maren graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Auditing.

Director of Acquisitions

Nelson Payne

Nelson Payne is the Director of Acquisitions for Spartan Investment Group, focusing primarily on new property acquisitions and business development. Prior to Spartan, Nelson was a Residential Real Estate Broker for Jackson Hole Sotheby’s International Realty, and on the Acquisitions teams for Cortland, a multifamily investor/developer, and Prime Group Holdings, the largest private owner-operator of self-storage in the country. He has helped to close over $175 Million in acquisitions over his career.  

In his free time, Nelson enjoys spending time with his wife, Charlotte, and son, Charlie. They enjoy fly fishing, golfing, and skiing in the great Colorado outdoors. 

VP of Operations - Spartan Construction Management

Jack Mutty

As Vice President of Operations for Spartan Construction Management, Jack brings his experience as a general contractor and owner’s representative in commercial construction to oversee Spartan’s capital improvement, expansion, and new construction projects.  Jack has managed construction projects ranging from $20M to $100M in multiple asset classes including multi-family, office, data, and mixed-use development.  Prior to Spartan, Jack supported the U.S. Antarctic Program where he oversaw multiple construction projects at McMurdo Station in Antarctica.

 

Jack Graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Business Administration.

VP of Development

Gerrit Van Maanen

As Vice President of Development for Spartan Investment Group, Gerrit brings his skills in project management, financial analysis, and residential construction to oversee Spartan’s development and capital improvement initiatives. Prior to this role he worked as a Financial Analyst for IBM.

Gerrit graduated from The University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in Finance.

Capital Markets Associate

Josh Morrison

Josh Morrison is a Capital Markets Associate for Spartan Investment Group. Josh brings a background in finance and market analysis, with an emphasis on assisting the team in business development. Prior to joining the Spartan Investment Group team, Josh worked in customer service and in human resources.

Josh recently graduated from the University of Washington with an undergraduate degree in History.

Design-Build Manager

Tim Littlejohn

Tim Littlejohn is a Design-Build Manager on the Spartan Construction Management team. He manages construction projects on the front end in design development, estimating, and risk mitigation prior to breaking ground in the field. Tim’s background in asset classes includes healthcare, multi-family, special purpose, hospitality, aviation, mixed-use, and self-storage. Tim graduated with a B.S. in construction management from Indiana State University and an A.S. in HVAC from Ivy Tech Community College. He maintains credentials in sustainability through the USGBC and was awarded Northern Colorado’s 30 under 30 and Indiana States Pioneers of Tomorrow.

Prior to working with Spartan, Tim started his own general contracting and land development company in Northern Colorado and continues to develop real estate concurrently. He serves on the board of directors for the Loveland Habitat for Humanity affiliate, which creates affordable housing in the Northern Colorado market.

East Regional Manager

Randy Trapanick

Randy is a seasoned professional and holds the position of Regional Manager in the Eastern United States at Free Up Storage. With oversight spanning six states, He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and has over 20 years in multi-unit management, with a significant portion of that time dedicated to brand and 3rd party management.

Randy’s extensive background encompasses a diverse range of industries, including Storage, Military, Retail, Hospitality, and Real Estate. Randy served 8 years, in the U.S. Army, where he served with distinction in Military Police and training roles.

Preconstruction Engineer

Kiki McCartney

Kiki is part of the pre-construction division and contributes to the success of the front-end activities related to estimating, solicitation, bidding, risk mitigation, and development before Spartan Construction Management breaks ground.

Since moving to the United States, Kiki switched careers and worked in commercial real estate, residential real estate, multi-family development, self-storage development, and facility management. With over two years of experience in the real estate and construction world, Kiki joined the teams as a Pre-Construction Engineer.

Kiki graduated from Louisiana State University with summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and two minors: business administration and technical sales.

Prior to moving to the United States, Kiki has six years of experience in hotel management, retail, and office management. Kiki worked in various countries, from Germany and Austria all the way to New Zealand. Working in different countries with diverse cultures taught Kiki high-end and personable customer service, a highly detailed and task-oriented work attitude, in addition to thinking outside the box.

Kiki hails from the picturesque village of Berghofen in Germany (Bavaria), a close-knit community of approximately 300 people. Coming from such a unique environment has undoubtedly shaped her approach to teamwork and collaboration.

Outside of work, Kiki is a passionate traveler who loves to explore and immerse herself in different cultures. She has a strong desire to discover more of the United States, making her an adventurer at heart. Her wanderlust and curiosity align perfectly with our team’s spirit of exploration and growth.

Kiki’s favorite holiday is Oktoberfest, which she describes as the “5th season of Bavaria.” This celebration is a testament to her love for traditions, great food, and the company of friends and family. It’s evident that Kiki values the importance of togetherness, something we hold dear in our team as well.

Real Estate Development Manager

Brad Smith

Brad Smith is the Real Estate Development Manager for Spartan Investment Group. He brings over 20 years of extensive commercial real estate experience in entitlement, project management, and program development for nationally recognized developers, retailers, and operators. Focused primarily on Spartan’s new development and capital improvement initiatives, Brad brings his wide-ranging experience in guiding the successful entitlement and development of over 100 properties across multiple asset classes, throughout the United States.

 

Brad holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University. He enjoys traveling and participating in outdoor activities with his wife and three kids. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of a local youth soccer organization.

Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis Manager

Darius Armstrong

Darius Armstrong is the new Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis Manager for Spartan Investment Group, focusing primarily on creating new reporting standards for external and internal audiences,  developing new financial models, and revamping budgeting/forecasting processes. Prior to Spartan, Darius was an FP&A manager for a large healthcare company and a commercial finance business partner with Delta Air Lines. He has successfully managed $1B+ in budgets throughout his career.

In his free time, Darius enjoys many Colorado outdoor recreational activities and spending time with his family and friends.

Project Engineer

Christian Rodrigue

Christian was Spartan’s first intern within the Construction department.  Starting as a part-time remote employee, Christian is now working full-time in the field as a Project Engineer.

Christian completed his degree in Construction Management at Colorado State University, and came to Spartan with two previous internships under his belt, working for an owner’s rep firm and a general contractor in Colorado where he worked on projects of all scopes and sizes.

Christian lives in Fort Collins, CO, where he attends college. In his free time, Christian can commonly be found in the gym, hiking in the mountains, or enjoying some of Fort Collins’ music scene. He is also part of the CSU Freeriders Club and the Outdoors Club.

Construction Administrator

Anne Claire Hauser

Anne Claire, also known as A.C., serves as the Construction Administrator for Spartan Construction Management, based in the Golden, CO office. A.C. transitioned from the veterinary industry before joining SCM, bringing with her over a decade of experience in customer service, as well as more than 3 years of experience in administration and management.

Originally from North Carolina, A.C. is a graduate of N.C. State University with a bachelor’s degree in public relations. During her leisure time, she enjoys spending moments with her family, including her two beloved pooches, Walter and Birdie, both in Colorado and on the East Coast.

Assistant Project Superintendent

Ross Sherrod

Ross Sherrod is an Assistant Project Superintendent for Spartan Construction Management. Prior to SCM  he worked with the City of Huntsville as a Building Inspector and performed the building inspections on the FreeUp Storage Huntsville, TX project.

Ross currently lives in Madisonville, TX with his wife Ashley and three kids Brody, Truly, and Taw. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a BS in Agricultural Business in 2010 and in his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities with his family, as well as watching his kids and favorite teams play sports.

Marketing Project Manager

Keith Adkins

Keith Adkins is the Marketing Project Manager for Spartan Investment Group and is responsible for creating an understanding of the benefits and value Spartan provides by leading the production of marketing materials and assets our investors can connect with. He is dedicated to leading our team through project lifecycles while ensuring scopes, budgets, and timelines are adhered to. Prior to joining Spartan Investment Group, Keith spent more than ten years in agency environments, most recently working with brands like Dexcom, Sonos, and GNC.

Keith brings over a decade of experience in the digital space to our team and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies with a minor in psychology. When not working, he enjoys training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Hiking, and spending time with his daughter and dog.

Marketing Manager

Kelly Williams

Kelly Williams is the Marketing Manager for Spartan Investment Group, based in the Golden, CO office. Kelly has 7+ years of marketing experience and previously worked in the commercial real estate, real estate investment, and property management industries.

Kelly is originally from Chicago and graduated from Winona State University with a BA in Mass Communications Advertising. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, hanging out with friends, and playing with her dogs Churro and Hazelnut.

Lauren Brychell

Lauren Brychell is the Investor Relations Manager for Spartan Investment Group, LLC. In this role, Lauren brings her skills in capital raising and self-storage investing to assist the team with capital raise projects and investor education.

Lauren graduated from Belmont Abbey College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a concentration in Marketing and a minor in Entrepreneurship.

Jack O’Connor

Jack is an Investor Relations Manager for Spartan Investment Group, bringing over five years of experience in Capital Raising and Investor Relations in Real Estate and Regenerative Farmland. Joining the team in 2023, Jack focuses on managing Spartan’s current investors and building relationships with investors interested in our self-storage investment opportunities.
He graduated from Union College with a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science, where he was a member of the Varsity Lacrosse Team. In his free time, Jack enjoys staying active by golfing and skiing, and is an avid supporter of Minnesota Professional Sports teams.

Jason Sanders is an Accounts payable Specialist for Spartan Investment group. Jason switched from a public health-focused career to accounting in 2019. He graduated from Indiana University in 2018 with a degree in Public Health and is pursuing an MBA.

 

Marketing Manager - FreeUp Storage

Lindsay Gross

Lindsay is the Marketing Manager for FreeUp Storage. With over 11 years of marketing experience, she brings her passion for real estate and marketing to the Spartan Investment Group team. Lindsay oversees all the marketing functions for FreeUp Storage, including strategy, brand management, digital marketing, promotion, and PR.

Lindsay graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Real Estate. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, playing pool, traveling, and cooking.  

 

Investor Relations Administrator

Josh Zinto

Josh Zinto is the Investor Relations Administrator for Spartan Investment Group and comes with a public accounting background.

Josh is from Simi Valley, CA, and graduated from California Polytechnic State University in 2021 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Ethics, Law, and Justice, along with an Accounting Concentration. In his free time, Josh enjoys snowboarding, watching his favorite sports teams win, and exploring new food options in Colorado. A fun fact about Josh is that the first run he went down at Breckenridge was a black!

Property Accountant

Dmitri Fabro

Dmitri Fabro is a property accountant for Spartan Investment Group and comes from the financial services industry.

Dmitri is originally from Belize and graduated with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Colorado Christian University. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer and basketball, any outdoor activities, hanging with friends, and reading a good book.

Anna Kelly

Anna Kelly is the Office Manager and works in Accounts Payable at Spartan Investment Group’s Golden office. She comes from the aviation industry with several years of hospitality experience.

Anna graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia with a Computer Science BS.

Kenny Rodrigues

Kenny Rodrigues is a Construction Specialist for Spartan Investment Group. Kenny focuses on initial improvements and due diligence of newly acquired assets while bringing to the team strong project management and implementation. He has over 10 years of commercial development experience with mixed-use projects in urban markets ranging from $5M to $75M. Prior to Spartan, Kenny worked at a family office overseeing the buildout of a private real estate portfolio in Northern CA. 

 

Kenny graduated from California State University-Chico with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Revenue Operations Manager

Mike Scott

Mike Scott is the Revenue Operations Manager at Spartan Investment Group. His ongoing research is developing the FreeUp Storage Revenue Management Strategy to optimize revenue across the portfolio with an emphasis on customer retention. Before working at Spartan, Mike worked in data analytics roles across the Real Estate Services and Mineral Rights industries. Mike graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a dual emphasis in Finance and Marketing.

Kiersten Wallerstedt

Development Associate

JP Nolette

JP primarily leads efforts in site selection and negotiation of raw land for all of Spartan’s ground-up development projects. Prior to joining Spartan in 2021, JP graduated from the University of Colorado – Boulder with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a dual emphasis in Real Estate Finance and Marketing.

As a Colorado Springs native, JP is all things Colorado. He enjoys skiing, golfing, hiking, and going to Colorado sporting events.

Pre-Construction Manager

Zach Gumper

Zach Gumper is the Pre-Construction Manager for Spartan Investment Group. Zach brings his skills to support the SIG team by providing conceptual/detailed construction estimates that include subcontractor and engineering packages that will initiate future capital improvements. Once properties are under contract, Zach supports the rest of the Spartan Construction Management team with initial execution of developments.

Prior to working in the construction industry, Zach graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Project Controls Engineer

Alex Dick

Alex Dick is the Construction Specialist for Spartan Investment Group, focusing on supporting the acquisition of new properties, assisting with the due diligence process, overseeing initial improvements on newly acquired properties, and reviewing the project in-depth to schedule deliverables and estimate costs. He has 10+ years professional experience in financial sales, business development, and relationship management. Alex graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Organization and Innovation Management.  

Business Intelligence Analyst

Max Salomon

Max Salomon is the Business Intelligence Analyst at Spartan Investment Group. Max brings his experience with data governance and advanced analytics to assist with the leveraging and creation of data infrastructure to support research efforts for acquisitions and operations teams.

Max graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with dual majors in Information Analytics and Finance.

Investor Relations Manager

Ted Greene

Ted Greene is a third-generation Seattleite who married his high school sweetheart. Ted and Melissa have two children attending the same High School where they first met. After graduating from Seattle Pacific University with a BA in Finance Ted spent 24 years in the financial services industry as an investment advisor and Fiduciary.

Tristan Cottarel

Tristan Cottarel is the Finance Analyst at Spartan Investment Group. Tristan brings his experience with financial analysis and market research to assist the Finance, Acquisitions, and Business Intelligence teams with market feasibility studies, property due diligence, as well as financial planning and analysis. 

Tristan graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate Finance and an emphasis in Real Property Development.

Operations Specialist

Danielle Tricarico

Danielle Tricarico is the Operations Specialist for Spartan Investment Group.  For 13 years, she worked in the Real Estate Investments Department for a public pension plan and prior to that as a paralegal in the student loan industry.  Danielle has earned an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a Finance concentration.

West Regional Manager

Stuart White

Stuart recently joined Spartan as the Western Regional Manager, including facilities in Texas, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Arkansas, focusing on operational excellence that provides value for our customers and investors.
He joined the self-storage industry in 2015 after serving five years as an artillery officer in the United States Army. Stuart managed and operated storage facilities for over 8 years with Public Storage and the William Warren Group before coming to Spartan.
Stuart spends his free time coaching 4-year-old soccer and singing Nightmare Before Christmas songs with his kids. He also enjoys playing tag and jumping on trampolines with his children, and watching professional and college football with his wife, Brittany.

Jennifer Andersen is the Senior Real Estate Paralegal for Spartan Investment Group. Jennifer has twenty years of experience in law firms, during which time she developed her extensive knowledge of real estate transactions. Jennifer received her undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Colorado and her paralegal certificate from the Denver Paralegal Institute.

In her free time, Jennifer enjoys hiking, traveling, spending time with her family, and playing with her dogs, Loki and Alpina.

Scott Lewis

Scott Lewis is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Spartan Investment Group, LLC (SIG). As the CEO, Scott is responsible for the company’s strategic direction and ensuring it aligns with SIG’s mission to Improve Lives Through Our Values.

 

In addition to Spartan, Scott is also in the US Army Reserves and a combat vet. Scott graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in chemistry and marketing, from Catholic University with an MS in management, and from Georgetown University with a Certificate in Project Management.

 

In his free time, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife, Lindsay, mountain biking, skiing, and chasing their Jack Russell Terriers around the yard.

Ryan Gibson

Ryan Gibson is the President, Chief Investment Officer, and Co-Founder of SIG. He has organized over $200M of private equity for Spartan’s projects. Ryan has experience managing the development of SIGs projects in challenging markets.

For SIG, Ryan is responsible for investor relations and capital raises for projects. Ryan is also a highly experienced commercial airline pilot. Ryan graduated from Mercyhurst University with a bachelor’s degree in Business, with concentrations in Marketing, Management, and Advertising.
